The Governing Board has adopted clearly defined content standards in reading-language arts, mathematics, science, history, and the arts that are aligned with the State's standards. Vallecitos serves as "a community school where students learn to achieve their dreams". As such, it offers its students an array of programs and services to meet the unique and individual needs of its population.
The District implemented a balanced reading/language arts program which won the distinguished "Golden Bell Award" from the California School Boards Association for its proven track record of improved achievement for all students.
The focus of the Title I program is on ensuring that all compensatory education students attain grade level standards through supplemental assistance in reading and language arts. The school's reading specialist program has as its primary function the prevention and remediation of reading difficulties at the earliest possible point in a child's educational career.
Instruction for all students whose native language is other than English is provided predominantly in English as required by California law. Students without sufficient proficiency in English receive instruction in ESL, modifications to ensure remediation of academic deficits, and primary language support. Once a student that has acquired a "reasonable level of English proficiency", he/she is placed in a mainstream English program.
The Vallecitos School District also offers a variety of other specialized services, including GATE, advanced use of technology tools, Special Education, and extended school opportunities (tutorials) as well as summer school services.
